The Center for the Victims of Torture recently received the 2007 Nonprofit Excellence Award given by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, which represents more than 1,700 nonprofit organizations. The award recognizes the professional practices CVT uses in governance, fundraising and financial management.
A blue ribbon committee of community leaders selected CVT for this prestigious award. CVT was cited as "an indispensable resource" for its practice of sharing findings and resources with other torture healing centers and the larger trauma care community. The organization was also commended for its ability to thoroughly evaluate its programs and services - making sure services directly match the organization's goals and objectives.
In accepting the award, CVT's executive director Douglas A. Johnson noted that the award encourages the organization in its “long-term commitment to see torture survivors through the
healing process."
