Midwest Coalition for Human Rights

Member Application

The Midwest Coalition for Human Rights welcomes as members established organizations in the Midwest region with a mission statement, nomenclature, or demonstrated activity that shows a commitment to human rights.

While we understand that individuals may also have a strong commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, and may wish to join the Coalition in their individual capacities, we encourage interested individuals to instead become involved with one of our constituent groups.

Rare exceptions are made for individuals, nominated by Coalition members, who are capable of bringing a particular expertise to the group. In such instances, the individual serves as “advisor” to the Coalition. An “advisor” is able to participate fully in Coalition matters, but is not afforded a vote.

There are no fees associated with membership in the Midwest Coalition. In general, members are responsible to pay the travel costs associated with their attendance at Coalition meetings, though they may request assistance if this is an unreasonable hardship upon their organizations. Members are encouraged to attend at least one meeting per year.

Membership may be cancelled at any time by notifying the Steering Committee.

Coalition members are encouraged to build relations with grassroots organizations that would benefit from utilizing the human rights framework. If the organization reaches a level of interest and commitment where both the organization and the Coalition would benefit from their membership, then the organization should be nominated for membership.

Organizations or individual advisors can be nominated at any time by existing Coalition members. Organizations may also nominate themselves by completing the webform below. The proposed organizations/individuals are reviewed by the Steering Committee, which is given 5 business days to respond in the negative. If no objections arise during this time, a formal letter of invitation for membership will be sent.

If you are NOT interested in General Membership, but would like to work on the following issue-based committees, please specify this in the "Comments" box at the end of the survey.
