Interfaith Vigils for Immigrant Justice at Broadview Detention Center

The weekly Friday morning vigil that was temporarily moved to 101 W Congress Parkway has been moved back to the Broadview Detention Center because the facility has been re-opened for processing of deportations.  

Concerns raised in Crete (IL) over planned ICE detention center

There was enough opposition to a proposed immigration detention center in Crete to fill the room, make that three rooms.

The possibility of the village approving a compound for undocumented aliens drew about 40 area residents Monday night to an informal meeting at a Crete home organized by the Interfaith Committee for Detained Immigrants, a Chicago-based group.

The Midwest Coalition for Human Rights attended the 2010 U.S. Social Forum in Detroit, Michigan from June 22 - June 26. MCHR and its members held three workshops in which we connected with participants on the issues of immigrant detention, worker's rights, and racial equity. Through our workshops and information table we were able to reach out to a large number of individuals and organizations from around the country about the human rights issues in which we are involved. What a success!

Chicago Religious Leadership Network on Latin America

Responding to the call of Latin America’s poor majorities, Chicago Religious Leadership Network on Latin America (CRLN) is an interfaith information and action network that mobilizes religious leaders and congregations in Illinois to advance peace, justice and human rights in our hemisphere.  CRLN’s 600 members include lay leaders, pastors, rabbis, bishops, denominational executives, seminary professors, and men and women religious.  Many have traveled to Latin America.  Others have associates there.  Through speakers, workshops, informational updates, action alerts, advocacy initiatives, annual visits to Latin America, and meetings with U.S. policy-makers, CRLN engages religious leaders to speak out for more just U.S.
